Three things decide whether a used Mac is a good buy, and none of them is the chip. Battery cycle count and health, whether the machine is genuinely free of Activation Lock, and the memory and storage configuration — which on Apple silicon can never be changed afterwards by anyone, including Apple. Everything else is detail.
These guides exist because most used-Mac advice online is written by people who have never opened one.
