How to Check a Used MacBook in Dubai — Inspection Checklist

MacUAE Team 6 min read· May 2026

Buying a used MacBook in Dubai? Don't hand over your money until you've checked every item on this list. At MacUAE, we do this inspection on every device before it reaches our shelves — but if you're buying privately, here's exactly what to look for.

1. Serial number verification

Go to checkcoverage.apple.com and enter the serial number (found in Apple menu → About This Mac). Confirm the model, purchase date, and warranty status match what the seller claims.

2. Battery cycle count

Go to Apple menu → About This Mac → System Report → Power. Look for "Cycle Count." Under 300 is excellent, 300–500 is good, 500–800 is acceptable, 800+ means the battery may need replacement soon (AED 400–600 at Apple).

3. Run Apple Diagnostics

Restart the Mac and hold the D key (Apple Silicon: hold power button until startup options appear, then press Cmd+D). This runs a full hardware test — any error codes mean there's a hardware issue.

4. Screen inspection

Open a white image (like a blank Safari page) and check for dead pixels, backlight bleed (especially in corners), and scratches. Tilt the screen back and forth to check hinge stability.

5. Keyboard & trackpad

Type every key in Notes. Test trackpad clicks across all four corners. Test multi-touch gestures (pinch, swipe, rotate). On MacBook Pros 2016–2019, test for the "sticky key" butterfly keyboard issue.

6. Ports & connectivity

Test every Thunderbolt/USB-C port with a charger or external device. Test Wi-Fi (connect to a network), Bluetooth (pair AirPods or a mouse), and the headphone jack.

7. Activation Lock

CRITICAL: Check that Find My Mac is OFF and the previous owner has signed out of iCloud. An Activation Locked Mac is useless — you cannot bypass it. Go to System Settings → Apple ID → sign out should be available.

💡 At MacUAE, every Mac passes all 7 checks before listing. Every device includes serial verification, battery cycle count stated, and a 90-day warranty.
