Dubai's used Mac market is full of great deals — but also scams. Whether you buy from MacUAE or privately, here's how to protect yourself and buy with confidence.
Red flags — don't buy if you see these
- Price is "too good to be true" (e.g., M2 Air for AED 800)
- Seller won't let you inspect the device in person
- Seller won't meet in a public place or at a store
- Find My Mac / Activation Lock is still on
- Seller can't provide the original box or charger
- Serial number doesn't match on Apple's coverage checker
- Only accepting crypto or wire transfer (no cash on delivery)
Safe buying checklist
- Meet in person — at a mall, café, or our Dubai Media City store
- Verify the serial number on checkcoverage.apple.com
- Check battery cycle count (under 500 is good)
- Run Apple Diagnostics (hold D on restart)
- Test every port, key, and gesture
- Confirm Find My Mac is OFF and iCloud is signed out
- Get a receipt — even a handwritten one with both names and IDs
- Pay cash on delivery or use an escrow service
